Janay Jones is a painter, writer, and video artist whose work centers womanhood, black ontology, and American Southernisms. While Jones’ work spans across various mediums and genres, her primary focus is experimental documentary film.

She is the creator of Self Poor Traits: Live From the Dark Room (2019) and The Mean Reds (2021). Self Poor Traits is a reflective series where Jones explores the conceptual nature of “flaws” through portraiture of various mediums. The Mean Reds is an abstract painting series that explores the physical manifestation of negative emotions.

Both of these projects are ongoing.
